SVdP Diocesan Councils, District Councils and parish-based Conferences throughout the United States are invited and strongly encouraged to participate. Money raised at the local level will be credited and used locally in direct service to the poor. The Friends of the Poor® Walk promises to substantially involve both the media and the general public in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s active commitment to help the poor.
Walkers elect their support of a Conference or Council and invite donors/sponsors to pledge. Walker registration is free…you can even sponsor yourself.
Walks will be organized individually by Conference or in coordination with the respective Council, in organizing a larger and more visible event. (Pledges supporting individual Conferences will remain with those Conferences even if you walk with a Council-organized event.) Regardless of where the Walker actually walks, pledges will be credited to respective Conferences and Councils as designated by each walker. (For example, those who Walk in Louisville on September 27, 2008, at the National SVdP meeting will still collect pledges for the Conference/Council of his/her designation.)
This site contains all Friends of the Poor® Walk planning, media, sponsor, and administrative/organizational material, including Walk marketing graphics—all downloadable. The site is linked to the electronic pledge facility for credit card pledges for those registered to walk on
behalf of each walker-designated SVdP Conference or Council. This site as is also linked to the SVdPUSA homepage and donation pages.
If you are a participating or potential walker; or Walk donor, sponsor, Conference, or Council, you will find everything right here that you need here to make the Friends of the Poor® Walk a reality for your community and for the poor you serve.
